tea anyone?

A chinese engagement...

Initially, we had to refuse this order since we already got too much on our hands, but the bride was so nice and bubbly, we decided to squeeze it in. besides, we always wanted to do a "tinghun" or "chinese engagement" invite.

To sum up what a tinghun is... It is where the bride announces to her clan that she is "engaged" through a tea ceremony. It starts off with the bride walking backwards. The husband to be's family brings in the goodies ( thats the dowry) for the bride to be and then they all eat misua and eggs and tea and angchio together.

The main challenge was to make it "chinesey" without making it well..too "chinesey". If you are chinese.... and are familiar with those tacky red and gold invites with the fu sign, you would know what we mean..

Here we tried to make it modern luxe by adding this floral print border...as inspired by Shangrila's condo interiors.

save the dates and other projects

things have gotten pretty busy lately for updating.... but we've gotten a few requests for projects aside from maps.. Here, Raquel and Jonathan asked us to do their Save the Date..

Raquel is a baker. She likes candy pink and chocolate brown. And so what better save the date than something that shows a lil bit of you....

We originally wanted a plain bakeshop.. something to keep the guest guessing...but the couple wanted to have a "couple" caricature too... just like the one they will be having on top of their cake. Raquel is the kind of bride who knows what she wants. and she was quite specific as to where she wants the muffins and cupcakes and cakes arranged. Looks like this is going to be one very coordinated and organized wedding!

So here is the final copy

Our original design... ( unfortunately, our apple pie and bundt cake didnt make the cut huhuhuh :) )

teaser of Leah and Coy's map

Here is a teaser of Leah and Coy's Map. We had loads of fun drawing the church. The glass garden however was a bit of a challenge. It took us a few drafts to decide what colours to use. We compromised with a shade that sits in between green and blue ( for a hint of foliage and glass) which we surrounded with rose vines. Do you think they look like the original?

Leah and Coy's Wedding Inspirations

When Leah approached us for her wedding map, we were so excited, we started conceptualizing right away even if she hasn't confirmed yet.  She sent us several photos of her wedding inspirations. and what we saw.. we likey.

We are still doing the finishing touches of the map but will update you soon. Here are several of Leah's inspirations.

The Bride wants the colours of rose and champagne to evoke a swirl of romance in the air. The  The ceremony will be held in Glass Garden where hints of vintage victorian and sweet roses  will meet in this wedding.

Leah's Bridesmaids will be swathed in soft chiffon.

Map to D's Wedding

This is the map that began it all. We were planning for D's wedding and we were not satisfied with the usual maps that are inserted with the invitations. We found the usual lines impersonal and well simply - u g l y.

So we decided to make one. It was a trial and error on our part to make the map for D's wedding. Everyone oohed and aahed and we feel pretty proud of ourselves.

Even if it took us all two nights to make it.

and forgot to save it.

and had to do it all over again.

It was worth it.

What did we get into?

Lets just call this a wedding hangover.

The wedding we have been preparing for has ended ( D's wedding) but the wedding buzz is still with us. So we decided to start making pretty maps for all the pretty weddings out there.

Our maps are made with lots of fuss and bickering. As to whether the sky colour be a hint of periwinkle or a creamy baby blue. As to whether we draw roses or daisies for the park.  As to whether the church tower be tall or short. As to whether we use french script MT font size 12 or Little Lord Fontleroy 10 and all the other itty bitty choices that comes with it. Sugar and spice and everything nice...

this is what maps should be made of...
